ATO Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) closure and PayDay Super changes for Australian employers

Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) closes 30 June 2026

As you may have seen in our earlier updates, PayDay Super starts on 1 July 2026. One important change to be aware of is that the ATO is closing the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) on 30 June 2026. This means some employers will need to switch to a new way of paying super.

If you’re using accounting software, the good news is that most major platforms already have super payment tools built in. Xero, MYOB, Reckon and QuickBooks all offer this, and using their integrated systems are usually the easiest option — especially now that super must be paid within 7 business days of each pay run/event, rather than quarterly.

If you’re not using one of these software providers, or you’d prefer another method, you have two main options:

1. Clearing house services from super funds

Many super funds offer free clearing house services to registered employers. Some may require the Fund to be your default fund in order to access the service at no cost.  Please reach out to your default Employer fund to see if they can offer this free of charge.

2. Independent commercial clearing houses

There are several private providers in the market. While they do charge fees, they often include helpful compliance tools and streamlined processing.

The ATO has also released a fact sheet (attached) to help guide you through the transition away from the SBSCH. They’ve included a list of approved clearing houses here.

We’ve taken a look at a few commercial clearing house options you might find useful:

SCH Online

  • Managed by MUFG (formerly Link Market Services)
  • Cost‑effective: for an employer with 20 staff (5 paid to the default fund, 15 to other funds), the cost is $2.95 per pay cycle. Fees increase for more than 20 employees.

Wrkr

  • A newer provider, used behind the scenes by some major funds (including AustralianSuper)
  • Pricing isn’t fully transparent — their website lists $5 per month, but you’ll need to request a detailed quote to be sure

SuperChoice

  • A long‑standing platform, widely used
  • Pricing is not listed publicly — you’ll need to obtain a quote

If you need help choosing a solution or getting set up, please reach out to your 4Front Adviser anytime. You don’t need to wait until 1 July — in fact, we recommend starting as soon as possible so you have time to iron out any issues before PayDay Super becomes mandatory.

Don’t forget to download your data

If you’re still using the ATO’s Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH), now is the time to find an alternative provider and download your transaction data history before access closes on 1 July 2026.

This data will be required for any future audit and employee queries.

End of Year Superannuation Payment Deadlines

Superannuation guarantee for the June 2026 quarter is due for payment by 28 July. However, to obtain a tax deduction in the 2026 financial year, the funds must be paid and applied to the members account before 30 June.

Check with your software provider regarding their payment deadlines. For example, if you are using Xero Auto Super, payment needs to be made by 2pm AEST 20 June in order to ensure these funds are applied to the members account in time.

If you have any questions or concerns about any of the information above please contact your 4Front Adviser.
