Most business owners don’t have an ideas problem. They have an execution problem.
There are usually plenty of things they could be doing: hiring, improving margins, fixing cash flow, lifting sales, developing leaders, buying equipment, reducing debt, planning succession.
The problem is that everything feels important.
And when everything is important, nothing gets done particularly well.
That is why one of the simplest tools we use in our business advisory process at 4Front is also one of the most powerful: The 90-day action plan.
Twelve months is too far away. A week is too short. Ninety days is long enough to achieve something meaningful, but short enough to create urgency and accountability.
A good 90-day business action plan forces you to answer a very simple question:
What are the three or four things that genuinely need to move this quarter?
Not twenty things. Not a wish list. The priorities that will actually improve the business.
What Should Go Into a 90-Day Action Plan?
Keep it simple.
For each priority, you should have:
Perhaps most importantly, the plan should connect to your bigger financial and strategic goals.
Increasing revenue is not enough.
Which customers? Which service line? At what margin? And what happens to cash flow when you achieve it?
That’s where proper business advisory starts to separate itself from generic business coaching.
In our view, if you run a small business of any size, your accountant should be doing considerably more than preparing financial statements and telling you how much tax you owe.
True, those things matter, and are very important. But they are backward looking. They are the starting line, not the finish line.
Your accountant already sees your revenue, margins, wages, ratios, debt, cash flow and profitability. The real value comes from turning those numbers into executable decisions.
Where is cash getting trapped? Is revenue growing without profit? Does the business have capacity to make the next hire? Should debt be reduced or capital preserved for growth?
These are business advisory conversations – and they should happen before the year is over, not six months after it.

The danger isn’t usually that nothing happens. Quite the opposite.
Everyone stays extremely busy. But busy businesses can still drift.
Twelve months later, revenue may have grown while margins declined. The important hire still hasn’t happened. Succession planning has been pushed back again. Cash flow remains tight and know really knows why?
Plenty happened. Just not necessarily the things that mattered.
At 4Front, our business advisory approach connects strategy with the financial reality underneath it.
Accounting, Tax, Finance, Wealth Creation, Succession Planning and Business Advisory. They shouldn’t operate as six separate conversations.
A decision to purchase premises may involve lending, tax and cash flow.
A growth strategy may require finance.
A succession strategy may fundamentally change your business structure and personal wealth planning.
The 90-day plan provides the discipline to bring those conversations together and turn them into action.

You don’t need another 40-page strategic plan gathering dust in a drawer. Far from it.
You need extreme clarity around what matters now, and someone prepared to hold you accountable to it.
If your current accountant isn’t helping you translate your numbers into priorities, actions and better business decisions, it may be worth asking whether you’re getting the level of advice your business now requires.
We’ll help you identify the priorities that matter, connect them to your financial position, and create genuine accountability around getting them done.
Because strategy matters. But execution is where the value is created.
If you’re tired of carrying every major decision yourself, it’s time to explore the 4Front Board of Advice Program.
We believe if your business plan doesn’t fit into the next 90 days, it probably isn’t a plan. We help you identify what matters, turn strategy into action, and provide the accountability to get it done.
Because whilst advice can change your thinking, accountability changes your results.
